CONSTRUCTION TRADES
Take a big step toward a career in construction by participating in the Construction program. Learn the fundamentals of home building, masonry/ concrete, finish carpentry, electrical, HVAC and Plumbing. Be a part of building a house and other on-site project utilizing real world products with real world machines in real construction settings. Take pride in knowing you are part of a team that participated in construction projects throughout the community.

All construction trades programs are held at the Construction Trades building at 125 Murray Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46802

* Please Note: Each of the above programs meets Next Level Programs of Study requirements. Although each program is one year long, there an opportunity for a second year, capstone course within each program.
COLLEGE CREDIT & CERTIFICATIONS
Students have the opportunity to earn college credits through Ivy Tech and industry certifications including NCCER HVAC Level 1 & 2, NCCER Carpentry Level 1, NCCER Electrical Level 1 &2, and OSHA 10.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Carpentry
Through this program, students will explore a history of construction, read technical drawings, and learn how to transform drawings into physical structures. Students will develop basic knowledge, skills, and awareness of interior and exterior finishing competences. Such interior projects include interior trim, installation of drywall, moldings, interior doors, kitchen cabinets, and hard surface flooring. Exterior projects include home construction, remodeling, roofing, siding, exterior door, and window installation.
Electrical
Through classroom, laboratory, and on-site experiences, students can learn how to install and repair electrical and wiring systems for residential and commercial structures. Also, students will about installation of electrical service, rough wiring, light and device applications, electrical remodel, and metering equipment.
HVAC
Students in this program will learn furnace analysis and troubleshooting. As well as, HVAC and furnace installs, ductwork fabrication, air purification, and basic controls for a variety of heating and A/C applications.
Masonry
The focus of this program will be on setting up, forming, tearing out, and pouring concrete. Students will lay brick, block, and stone. Students will also work on projects assisting with driveways, footings, foundations, and slabs.
